This year I'm dogsitting in an apartment with no internet access and my computer died two days before Christmas, and somehow I've created a list of Yuletide recs anyway. (Compare this to years in which I've had 24/7 internet access and never managed to rec a single story.) I'm putting this amazing feat down to the magic of the Kindle--I go home every day or two to download new fic off the AO3 and then read it at my leisure later--and to my own spirit of perversity.

I'm planning to do a second set of recs just for The Eagle (plus any additional awesome stories I might read between now and then), but for now here are a dozen recs in:

Babel-17, Billy Elliot, The Breakfast Club, The Left Hand of Darkness, Lucky Starr series, My Drunk Kitchen, Nobuta wo Produce, Rizzoli & Isles, Suits )

I finally uploaded seven of my older stories to the AO3 (including the first fanfic I ever completed, back in Spring 2002; I have no idea how that one managed to slip through the cracks, but somehow it never managed to migrate over to the AO3). The popslash stories have been available on my website for years, but the others were written for various fic exchanges and never crossposted elsewhere until today. In reverse chronological order:

Halfway Respectable
Havemercy, Adamo/Balfour, 1046 words
After the dissolution of the Dragon Corps, the airmen follow different paths.

Correspondence
Havemercy, Thom/Balfour, 5183 words
Thom had never had occasion to think overlong on Volstov's mail service as a student.

Efflorescence
Star Trek XI, Uhura/Sulu, 2591 words
Uhura finds what she's looking for.

Different
Nobuta wo Produce, Shuuji/Akira, 100 words
Shuuji makes a new friend.

Obedience
'N Sync, Backstreet Boys, AJ/Justin, 194 words
Justin's a good boy.

Competition
'N Sync, Chris/Lance, 184 words
"What do you mean, 'Nick Carter's hotter'?"

Better than Fine
'N Sync, Chris/Lance, 495 words
Chris isn't sick anymore. Really.

And I'm pretty sure that's all the loose fic I had lying around. Now to update my website rest on my laurels, have a celebratory cup of wine, and procrastinate on updating my website for another year or two.

I may have found one of my Yuletide fandoms for next year, thanks to this fascinating post on Leyendecker and the Arrow Collar Man, examining the artwork of J.C. Leyendecker, magazine cover and advertisement illustrator in the 1900-1930s. I particularly like the illustration of the soldiers and nurse on board the U.S.S. Leviathan and the one with the man and woman supporting a book. Early 20th century homoeroticism for the win!

Thank you so much for participating in this exchange and for offering one or more of my requested fandoms! Two important things I wanted to tell you:

* Optional details are optional. I've offered several possible hooks for a story in each of my requests because that's how I like to write for exchanges, but if your creativity is sparked in other ways, or if you just don't like any of my suggestions, then feel free to ignore them and write a different story for those characters.

* Yuletide tends to be a high-pressure exchange for a lot of people, and while I'm not trying to invalidate your feelings if you're one of them, I do want to encourage you to not worry too much. I haven't found a single story for Babel-17, Purple Hibiscus, or Things Fall Apart, and while Havemercy is a more popular small fandom, Kouje/Mamoru isn't a popular pairing, so there's pretty much nothing you could write that I wouldn't coo over for the very fact of its existence.

As I said, I tend to prefer more info rather than less when writing for exchanges. If you feel the same, then please check out my general fic kinks and squicks post and/or continue reading:

Yuletide nominations are open for the next 36 hours (closing time for Yuletide nominations), so be sure to get yours in if you're participating/considering participating in Yuletide. Before nominating your three fandoms, you might want to check out this spreadsheet of already nominated fandoms and characters so that you don't waste a nomination if one or more of your fandom-character(s) combos has already been nominated. Remember that nominations are being reviewed continuously, and once a nomination has been approved or rejected you can't change it, so be certain of your choices before submitting the form.

As previously mentioned, I've nominated Havemercy, Purple Hibiscus, and Things Fall Apart. I still have one character slot open for Havemercy and three open for Purple Hibiscus, so leave a comment if you want me to add your favorite to either of those fandoms' character lists.

* I've turned off anonymous commenting on my LJ, after several weeks of near-daily spam that finally reached a peak of five comments in two hours. I only receive legitimate anonymous comments once in a blue moon, so I hope this won't be too much of an inconvenience for y'all. My DW is still set to allow anonymous commenting (for as long as the spammers avoid my DW, anyway), so anyone who reads me on LJ can click through to the DW mirror if you want or need to comment anonymously to one of my posts.

* [community profile] 3_ships is doing something new and exciting this year: in addition to the regular exchange, a threesomes (and moresomes) prompt meme is being run on AO3. Anyone can submit up to three threesome prompts, whether or not you're participating in the exchange (and whether or not you're planning to fill a prompt that someone else left). And, if you are inspired by one of the prompts left by someone else, you can fill the prompt even if you haven't signed up for the exchange. ETA: Also, unlike the I Saw Three Ships exchange which is fic-only, the prompt meme accepts a variety of fanworks, including art, icons, vids, etc. </ETA>

I'm hoping to write an extra story or two for the Cookie Jar meme, but so far none of the prompts is speaking to me, so I'd really love it if more people stuffed the meme with their threesome prompts.

* If you're participating in Yuletide (or considering doing so) but don't follow the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide comm, you might want to know about this Yuletide character- and fandom-coordination post, where folk are designating nominators for fandoms and/or characters so that multiple people don't end up nominating the same thing, as well as offering any open slots for character nominations up for grabs.

By the way, I'm nominating the Havemercy series by Jaida Jones and Danielle Bennett (Balfour, Kouje, Mamoru), Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Jaja), and Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe (Ekwefi, Ezinma, Ikemefuna, Nwoye). Let me know if you want me to add another character to either the Havemercy or Purple Hibiscus character list!

Thanks for signing up to write for me! If you'd find it helpful, I have a fairly exhaustive general kinks and squicks post that you can check out. I'm open to either triangles or V-relationships in all of my requested fandoms; I've noted below which character I'd prefer to be the fulcrum of the vee, but if you have a seriously awesome story idea that runs counter to my preferences, then please go for it.

Thanks so much for signing up to create stories and graphics for me! I participated in this exchange last year and loved it, and I'm really excited for this year, as well.

If you're looking for suggestions on what sorts of stories I like, the first place to look is my general kinks and squicks post. A couple of my preferred tropes are more suited to longer fic than what gets produced for Purim Gifts, so just ignore anything that would necessitate a really plotty story. I tend to prefer slash, het, and femslash to gen, but don't let that worry you if you're a gen writer; I do enjoy gen (especially gen involving queer characters), and I'm more than happy to meet you halfway rather than demand that you write something you'll hate.

Favorite pairings, relationships, and characters in my requested fandoms:

Bend It Like Beckham Jess/Joe/Jules ♥, Jess/Jules, Jess-Jules, Jess

The Good Wife Alicia/Kalinda ♥, Alicia/Will, Diane/Kalinda, Kalinda/Lana, Kalinda/Donna, Alicia-Diane, Alicia, Kalinda, Diane, Wendy, Eli

Numb3rs Don/Charlie/Amita ♥, Don/Charlie, Don/Amita, Amita/Kim Hall, Don-Charlie, Don-Charlie-Alan, Amita, Don

Sherlock Sally/Molly, Sally, Soo Lin

I also have a somewhat inexplicable passion for the idea of Lestrade as a French Jew whose family immigrated to England sometime in the late-19th to mid-20th century. If you wanted to explore that in a gen or slash story (my favorite Lestrade pairings are Sherlock/Lestrade, John/Lestrade, and Sherlock/John/Lestrade), then that would be completely awesome. If you're not up for religion-bending and/or don't think it in keeping with the spirit of Purim Gifts, however, then any of my other Sherlock pairing or character requests are more than welcome.

Favorite relationships and characters for graphics (if you're choosing to create art or icons; ignore the following if you're going the pretty photographs route):

Jess-Jules, Jess, Alicia-Kalinda, Kalinda, Diane, Don-Charlie, Amita, Don, Sally

That OTP meme that's been making the rounds of my dwircle/flist, modified slightly because my only guilty pleasure pairings involve parent-child incest and can be found in just a couple of my fandoms, while, otoh, I have an OT3 in most of the fandoms in which I've participated.

An end of the year fandom meme. I'm planning to do the writing meme, as well, but I have too many stories tied up in anonymous fic exchanges at the moment.

Your main fandom of the year?
I've been a total fannish butterfly this year. Primary fandoms have been (only counting obsessions that lasted at least two weeks): Psych, Firefly, Supernatural, Numb3rs, The Losers, Sherlock.

Your favorite film watched this year?
The Devil Wears Prada and Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Your favorite book read this year?
Things Fall Apart and Franny and Zooey

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
This Is Us by the Backstreet Boys

Your favorite TV show of the year?
The Good Wife and Sherlock

Your favorite journaling community of the year?
[community profile] dreams_library

Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Rupert Graves cast as Detective Inspector Lestrade.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
"The Blind Banker." And disappointment is too mild a word for this, but Judith Merkle Riley died this past September. I've been hoping and wishing since 1999 that she'd write another of her awesome historical romances, and now she never will.

Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Lestrade

Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Alicia Florrick, Kalinda Sharma, Diane Lockhart

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Battlestar Galactica, Castle, Fastlane, Fringe, Robin Hood, Sanctuary. So many interesting fandoms, so little time. :-(

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
[livejournal.com profile] sherlock_remix and Sherlock Season 2
