Am I the only one who thinks Chaim Potok's The Chosen is a big, gay love story? Obviously nothing could ever come of it, because of the religious strictures concerning homosexuality, but Danny is so very gay and he and Reuven are so in love. (For anyone who's read The Promise: please don't disillusion me concerning my belief that the two of them are star-crossed lovers. I'm sure they're both very happily and flamboyantly heterosexual in it, but I don't really want to think about it.)

Omigod, yes. I had to read The Chosen sophmore year, and its one of the only school-appointed books I've kept, because the Tragic Tale of Reuven and Danny's True Smart Boyish Love is too cute.

Totally! They so belong together. I always thought so. And...

I'm sure they're both very happily and flamboyantly heterosexual in it, but I don't really want to think about it.

Yes, but... not. Heh.

I loved that book, and also A Separate Peace. My precursors to slash...

Wow. I never thought of it that way before... Yeah, I can see that. Weird.

See, this is the utterly fabulous thing about slash-- it then gets into everything else you see/read, to some degree or other. Makes it much more interesting, too. The best example of this is when Sarah (my best friend growing up) and I went to see her sister's sixth-grade play. Which was unbelievably boring, or would have been, if we hadn't decided that the heroine and second female lead were having an affair. Much improved the play. We found lots of things to point to, also.

I haven't read the Chosen in a while, but I bet it's there.

Dead Poet's Society, too.

Ha, I have to get into the practice of slashifying things. The idea is most entertaining.

I'm two weeks late but I don't care because YES! YES! YES! The slashiness of that book was one of the few bright spots of a hideous hideous English class. THEY ARE SO IN LOVE! SO! IN! LOVE!

ahem. yes. happy to find like-minded souls.
