Horror classics

I just watched Ringu, the original Japanese movie that The Ring is based on. I may never sleep with the lights off again. If you're anywhere near as much of a coward as I am, you'll probably want to give this one a miss, but to everyone else: it's complex--both in terms of plot and character--and brilliant and oddly beautiful. A truly excellent film, and very, very frightening.

Did you like it better than The Ring? I liked The Ring better, but I suspect that's because of being able to understand it within a cultural context (as terrible as that sounds) - also Naomi Watts. Mmm. But yes, Ringu freaked me out - and there are 3 or 4 sequels to it.

I haven't seen The Ring, though I'm interested in doing so at some point just to compare the two movies. Based on its preview, I don't imagine that I'd like it as well, but of course I could be completely wrong about that.
