I really, really, really want to name one of my kids Woonsocket. Only I will not. Because I am neither cruel nor inhumane. And because I'm unlikely to have kids anytime soon.
I like the name Woonsocket - but appreciate your concern for the child's putative feelings on the matter.
I have long wished to name a child Wolfgang Peter, but for similar reasons changed that to something less likely to cause taunting on the schoolyard.
At this point my (never-to-exist) children's names are: Bartin Joachim for a boy, and Analise Gertrude for a girl - both have several possible abreviations, and I just like the way they sound. Plus, there's a nod to my Germanic heritage, which is cool.
It's all academic, since I'll never actually have children to name, but if a second virgin birth occurs, I'm ready!
Oh, I like both of those names, too. Analise is especially lovely; it's rare and unique, yet is easily pronouncable. Speaking of which, how does one pronounce Bartin? Bar-tin or Bar-teen? (Or something else altogether?)
Unfortunately, I don't know that I'll ever have children to name, either. I'm hoping to one day adopt, but considering the expense of adoption...
It would probably end up being Bar-tin - there's a little bit of a slide to the 'i', but it's fairly faint, and I'd probably end up going with the "tin" sound that everyone else would use.
Adoption is a good alternative for some people; sadly money was an issue for me, and I waited too long - I'm too old and out of shape now.
Good luck to you, hopefully you'll make it it work out!
