women with speaking roles in Star Trek XI--Winona Kirk, Amanda Grayson, Nyota Uhura, Gaila, and Christine Chapel
Chapel doesn't have a speaking role; McCoy hollers her name (only), unless someone not identified onscreen as her also speaks. I don't have a problem with including her (and, I would expect if I did you would possibly wonder why I thought my opinion was key to your fest-managing, heh), I'm just saying, if the criterion is speaking role, she doesn't have one, and also that if her shouted name is representation enough, there are at least three other women who do appear on the screen and have actual actions, though I'm not sure more than one of them speak, and the names aren't so great: Hannity (transporter chick that Chekov pushes aside; I'm thinking she may also speak at some point on the bridge?)); Vulcan Council woman (who may be T'Pau? I dunno), who may never have a line; and crazy-eyes doctor that delivers Kirk, who may not have a name.
Again, this isn't intended as a criticism or to say I think you are doing your fest wrong, just, when I read that I was all ...wait, what?

Chapel's definitely included on a technicality--two words: not that much--but I wanted to maximize the number of female characters who could be written while still limiting it to the characters who a reasonable portion of the fandom were capable of writing (and, hopefully, that a significant number of readers would be willing to give a shot even if it's not their usual pairing).
