This is my first year participating in this exchange, so I'm very excited and can't wait to see what you come up with! I'm guessing you're either a Firefly or Star Trek XI writer, based on the sign-ups, but I've included a few details on all of my chosen fandoms, just in case.
Generally speaking, things that I don't like to read include breathplay/asphyxiation, character-bashing, death, abuse, betrayal, PWPs, non-con, coercion, and violence.
I personally tend to prefer more direction rather than less when I'm writing for a fic exchange, but if you like things more open-ended, that's fine. Just avoid my squicks and I'll be very happy. If you're like me, though, and want further suggestions, some of the story elements I particularly enjoy include:
Happy (or at least hopeful) endings; friendship; family (either biological or chosen); female competence at computers, electronics, cars and spaceships and other heavy machinery, or go; eating (but no foodsmut, please); sharing beds; kissing; first-time fic; established relationship fic (especially if there's some sort of shift in the dynamics of the relationship); and mild angst with an eventual happy ending.
Firefly, Kaylee/Inara, Inara/OFC.
I love the scene where Kaylee watches Inara with her female client and talks about how beautiful they look together; something that evokes that scene in any way would be lovely. Or you could write about Inara with a female client--or a girlfriend--of your own invention. Seeing her with an Alliance government official would be especially neat, but really anyone who works for your story is fine.
Hikaru no Go, Nase/Akari.
Nase doesn't get nearly enough love, to my mind, and I think she and Akari would be awesome together. Maybe Akari could hire her as a go tutor and sparks could fly, or maybe the two of them could become close after they both become insei and feel the need for some female support and companionship in a predominantly male world.
Nobuta wo Produce, Nobuta/Mariko.
Mariko's one of my very favorite characters, and I love how kind and brave she and Nobuta both are. I especially like the idea that they both have things to teach each other, so if you wanted to explore that a bit, that would be great.
Star Trek XI, Uhura/Gaila, Gaila/OFC, Uhura/OFC.
I adored both of these characters, but the movie didn't/couldn't explore them as thoroughly as I would have liked, so pretty much anything that fills in some of the gaps for either or both of them would be awesome. I don't care for cheating in fanfic, though, so if you're writing one of the Uhura pairings, please set the story before she and Spock get together or after they break up, or establish it within the story that they have an open relationship. (Gaila being involved with multiple people at once is fine, since one assumes her partners are reasonably informed about the situation.) A few things I'd be particularly interested in: Uhura and/or Gaila finding their place in the Academy or on their first assignment; becoming friends/lovers despite cultural barriers; exploring their sexuality in the Academy; being smart and competent and the other half of the pairing finding that attractive...or whatever better thing you can think of that I haven't even considered.
I hope this letter was helpful. Either way, please have a lot of fun writing your story. I'm really looking forward to seeing the end result.
