I went in to New York for the ballet with my mother Saturday night. Things that you don't notice when you see a ballet as a fairly oblivious teenager but that are really obvious a decade later: those pirates have a pretty, half-naked male slave. Gee, I wonder what his job description was before the pirates acquired some female slaves for him to protect from villains, rescue, etc. Besides that revelation, it was a good performance, but not quite as impressive as the first two times I saw Le Corsaire. Possibly I'm just getting jaded in my old age.
jentfic_remix is gearing up again, though I'm thinking I might sit out this round. I already have four other fic exchanges I've committed to this summer, plus forty or so pages of my master's thesis left to write. Not to mention that the last round just ended a month ago, and that seems a bit recent even for my remix-loving self.
However, there are other remix exchanges I'm definitely doing. A heads up to people on my flist that
jdrama_remix will open sign-ups in a couple of weeks. It's running a bit late this year to give
remixredux09 and
jentfic_remix participants some time to recover between deadlines (and also to accommodate me completing my thesis). I'm planning to have assignments sent out around June 25th and stories due August 25th.
The qualifying requirements will be the same as last year. (Participants have to have written three 500+ word stories in one or more Japanese drama fandoms or two 500+ word stories plus one 100+ word story in a single fandom.) There were a couple of participants who just squeaked by last year, in that they had written enough qualifying stories, but some of those stories were in fandoms that no one else had offered to remix. I ended up giving those assignments to remixers who I was pretty sure could handle the extra challenge, but there's no guarantee that I'll be able to manage the same this year. If you think you might have been one of those people and if you're interested in participating in the exchange again, I encourage you to write another story or two in the next few weeks before the end of sign-ups.
Also, if you're friends with anyone who writes Japanese dramas other than Nobuta wo Produce, could you please mention the remix exchange to them sometime in the next couple of weeks? I really loved the stories that people wrote last year, and I am definitely guilty of writing two Nobuta stories myself for the previous exchange, but it would be nice if this year could be a little more diverse.
Finally, Remix Redux has opened sign-ups, and DBSK, JE, bandom, and popslash have all been added to the list of qualifying fandoms. (Which means I really need to get to work on updating my website, including shifting all my old popslash stories over there.) There are fewer animanga fandoms among the qualifying fandoms due to the paucity of animanga writers participating last year, but of course you can still submit them as additional fandoms and offer to write them, as long as you have at least one qualifying fandom to submit and offer.
And my newest shiny obsession is also on the list of qualifying fandoms! I'm definitely going to offer to write it, but it would be nice if I could also have enough ST:Reboot stories that I could submit it as one of my qualifying fandoms. Unfortunately, I'm still two short stories or three drabbles short of that goal, so, prompt me? I won't write breathplay or non-con, and I'm a little scared of writing Scotty or the parents, but most other prompts should be okay.

Remix Redux is consistently well-run, and I for one definitely enjoy participating in a remix exchange that includes such a wide range of fandoms and large number of participants. Otoh, it doesn't take pairing or genre preferences into account the way
