Thank you. I turned it off last night because there was a thunderstorm, and when I turned it on this morning it checked for consistency--as it had done half a dozen times yesterday, about half the times that it shut itself off--only this time it found a bunch of problems and truncated a number of files. So maybe it's managed to fix itself...or maybe it's going to continue spiralling down into failure and death. I'll just have to see.
