Today was almost a wonderful day. I volunteered at the Co-op this morning, which always puts me in a good mood, and I got a $5 certificate at work for picking up an extra shift when they were shorthanded, and I found Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on sale at the library for $3, and made some lovely eggless egg salad out of tofu for dinner.

And then I read this and just started sobbing. How do these things keep happening? What makes 96 Virginia House and Senate members decide that the best thing for their state is to strip gay couples of the few rights that they possess? There aren't words for how despairing and scared and helpless I feel, and I know that the people who actually live in Virginia and who are affected by this on an immediately personal level must feel a million times worse.
