Sorry, I just found this, which means that livejournal's email notification must have stopped working for me at some point; I swear I didn't ignore your response for the past two and a half months on purpose. In any case, thanks for the comment. It's good to know that I'm not alone in my confusion, even if it's increasingly looking as though I'll never understand what Renault was trying to say in that scene.
