It's funny, but I actually feel proud when my 12 year-old sister praises me condescendingly. She just came downstairs to check that I'd put the pot of potatoes on to boil and set the timer when I'd finished cooking my own dinner, as she'd asked me to. Of course I had, and she patted me on the shoulder and said, "Good girl." And rather than laugh at her patronizing me despite the fact that I'm ten years older than she is...I glowed.
