For the past week, we've been having trouble with our water--it's been brown and cloudy and generally disgusting. Since a golf course is being built behind our house and we've been having torrential rains lately, we figured that the combination had temporarily contaminated our well. One of our neighbors very kindly said we could come over for water whenever we needed, and we've been filling up bottles to use for drinking, toothbrushing, etc. at her house each day and waiting for the problem to subside.
Today, the taps stopped working. Apparently we were wrong to assume that the well is contaminated, when in fact either 1) the pump is broken, or 2) the well is empty, or 3) both. Luckily, we have a pool, so we've been able to haul buckets of water inside to fill the toilet tank every time it needs flushed. I'm incredibly grateful that we have that option, since otherwise life would quickly not be worth living, but it certainly makes me appreciate the miracles of modern plumbing that much more. Someone's coming to look at the well tomorrow, though, so hopefully we'll have running water again before I have to make too many trips with the water bucket.
