At first I thought I'd skip the obligatory introduction to me, on the grounds that anything obligatory is usually boring, but then I thought about the few LJs I'd seen that didn't have introductions, and while they were kind of sexy and minimalist, I also felt as though they were...lacking in backstory. So, as a compromise, I'm doing something informatory and reasonably practical: my responses to one of the more recent surveys drifting around.
1. Who was the first author you read in NSlash?
Helen; I'd read a bunch of her fps (multiple, multiple times) and loved it, and then one day this link appeared on her site to "Puppies in a Box."
2. What was the first story you read, if you remember that?
"Cold"
3. What was your initial reaction to slash? To NSYNC? To NSlash?
Slash: Short story, here: I used to read Star Trek het, many, many years ago. It's not something I'm especially proud of, but I was young and foolish then. And I came across this story with the pairing Riker/Chakotay. So I thought, "Oh, it's a parody," and started to read it. After a couple of pages, it began to dawn on me that this might not be a parody, after all. I finished the story, though, and decided at the end that, you know, I just must not be into seeing two guys together, because it had done absolutely nothing for me. It took me years to figure out that I was unimpressed not because of the guy-on-guy thing, but because the story was slashing Chakotay! and Riker!, neither of whom I'm remotely attracted to or interested in. I'm kind of slow sometimes.
NSync: I had only the vaguest sense of their existence when I started reading 'N Sync slash.
Nslash: I was enraptured and obsessed by my second story and very embarrassed. I got over that last fairly quickly, though.
4. Who is your "favourite"?
Chris. I love JC, and find Justin oddly appealing, but Chris is transcendent.
5. What is your OneTruePairing? (GSF counts)
I'll take a OneTrueGrouping: Timbertrickitten. Which has been beautifully rendered by Jae in onetwothree. So far as I know, she's the only one who's written this grouping, alas.
